Oscar Worthy

Of all the sports in the World, the one season I look forward to is Oscar Season! My tailgating begins before the strike of midnight. Waiting patiently outside the theater with other devoted fans; willing to sacrifice sleep and go to work early the next day for 2-3 hours of movie magic. It is in fact, one of many wonderful experiences you can share with hundreds of people.

There’s something about theater popcorn that you can’t recreate at home. That buttery roast scent, so pungent you feel the saliva on the back corners of your tongue, tightening while waiting in the concession line. Listening to the crowds as they burst with cinematic trivial energy. To others we sound like a herd of pompous, arrogant movie buffs. “I love the original which didn’t need to be redone…” “I can’t believe they chose that director to do this film…” “Well did you read what the writer was going for…” “The book is obviously going to be better…” You know who I’m talking about, and if you’re smiling chances are you’re guilty of it too. This my friends, is all part of the experience that I love.

We willingly gather because we all want the same thing, to receive a mind blowing experience. To remind us of what it means to love someone, find our self worth, admire a hero. It is in film that we take a life time journey with all the people on the screen; crying for them, cheering for them, and becoming one with them.

There is an artform to making motion picture come to life. It literally takes a whole team to work together, setting their personal lives aside to capture and give justice to a world that they’re creating for us. It’s not just the talent on the screen, but every single person credited at the end of the film. They put this together for us. Sacrificed hours, days, months, sometimes even sleepless years for us. It is an emotional experience when you sit at the end of the movie, giving your respects to reading the names that roll at the tail end of the film. All those people that made our 2 hours a magical one; every single one of them I give my respects to.

It’s why I love to go to the movies, why I’m in the film industry, and why I love LA. To be surrounded by people who fight to make it on the silver screen. Writers typing away at their favorite CBTL (The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf), actors chatting over mimosas at brunch, not knowing if that mailbox on the corner is a prop or real. Everyone & everything is part of a team of artists, wanting to make a whole new world come to life… just for us.

So if you have time this weekend or anytime during the week in fact; do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a movie. Take pleasure in the journey admiring the cinematography, costumes, makeup, lighting, color correction, editing, graphics, sound fx, music score… the list goes on, and it’s an impressive list when taking the time to appreciate them.

Now… before March Madness takes up my other time, I’m going to place my predictions on my favorite Oscar Nominated Movies on this site:
